Privacy Policy for WHIM

WHIM is a book that answers you. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
The short version: nothing you do in WHIM is sent anywhere. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Everything stays on your phone.
Information we do not collect
WHIM does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal information. Specifically, WHIM does not collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact details
- Account credentials, because there are no accounts and no sign in
- Your questions. WHIM never asks you to type a question and provides no way to do so. There is no keyboard anywhere in the app
- Location data of any kind
- Contacts, calendars, photos, health data, or files
- Device identifiers, advertising identifiers, or IP addresses
- Usage analytics, crash reports, session recordings, or behavioural data
- Payment or financial information
WHIM contains no advertising, no third party analytics, no tracking pixels, and no advertising or marketing software development kits.
Information stored on your device
WHIM saves a small amount of information locally on your phone so the app works between launches. This information never leaves your device and we never see it:

This is stored using the operating system's standard app storage. You can erase all of it at any time, in two ways:
- In the app, open the back of the book, then Settings, then Clear history
- Delete WHIM from your phone, which removes everything the app has stored
Photos
If you choose to save an answer card to your photo library, WHIM asks your permission first and then writes that one image. WHIM requests add only access. It cannot read, browse, or see any of your existing photos, and it never does.
If you never save a card, WHIM never touches your photo library at all.
Sharing
If you choose to share an answer using the iOS share sheet, that answer is handed to whichever app you pick. What happens to it after that is governed by that app's own privacy policy, not by this one. WHIM shares nothing unless you tap share and choose a destination.
Children
WHIM is suitable for general audiences. It contains no advertising, no purchases, no chat, no user generated content, and no links out to the web. Because WHIM collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children.
Randomness, and what the answers are
The answers WHIM gives are drawn at random from a fixed, human written list included in the app. WHIM does not read, interpret, analyse, or respond to any question. It has no artificial intelligence, no personalisation, and no knowledge of you.
Answers are for entertainment. They are not advice of any kind: not medical, legal, financial, or professional. Please do not use them as a substitute for advice from a qualified person.
Data security
Because WHIM stores nothing off your device and transmits nothing, there is no server holding your data and no database that could be breached. The information described above is protected by your phone's own security, including your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and the operating system's app sandboxing.
Your rights
Privacy laws including the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete personal information that a company holds about you.
We hold none. There is nothing for us to look up, correct, export, or delete, because none of it ever reaches us. The information stored on your own device is entirely under your control and can be erased at any time using either method described above.
Changes to this policy
If WHIM ever changes in a way that affects this policy, for example if a future version adds a feature that sends information somewhere, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on the App Store.
